Guide to Re-opening hotels and lodges

KitchenSpot has gathered information to make an easily accessible and detailed guide to re-opening for tourists using research from all over the globe.

Our research found that these are 3 crucial ways to communicate with your guest-

Social media-

  • Providing menus on favourites
  • Sharing procedures for health and safety on your property
  • Key arrival information.

Website-

  • Provide health and safety concerns by posting steps taken by your company to help prevent COVID-19

 Emails-

  • Keep your customers up to date will all existing and new procedures

Here are some of the recommended steps to ensure maximum guest and staff safety at your property’s:

For dining rooms-

  • Napkins and cutlery will only be brought out with food or can be kept in cutlery pockets (Cutlery pockets available at KitchenSpot)
  • Glasses will be kept upside down on a clean serviette or can be covered using branded coasters (Covers for glasses available at KitchenSpot)
  • It is recommended to serve directly or eliminate all sort of extra food garnishes that are usually served with foods
  • If buffets are a part of your property, sneeze guards should be in place
  • It is recommended to have single use paper menus or QR code menus (Menu stands available at KitchenSpot)
  • Reduced menus created by chefs to try and minimise cross-contamination of ingredients

For the Kitchen-

  • Sterilise all high touch point surfaces prior to all staff entering the kitchen
  • Ensure all staff wear gloves (Gloves available at KitchenSpot)
  • Ensure all food containers and utensils are thoroughly cleaned and sterilised
  • Wrap food to avoid cross contamination
  • Staff should be trained to separately and properly launder Staff clothing, kitchen towels etc
  • Ensure cleaning procedures for products entering the kitchen

For General areas-

  • Staff allowed to carry suitcases into guest’s room but should leave them outside
  • If offering room service, ensure to take measures such as dropping food/drink trays outside the room door
  • If guests are not well, encourage to deliver food on paper plates (Paper plates available at KitchenSpot)
  • Encourage guests to wear masks in common areas
  • It is recommended to implement social distancing marking in areas which are communal

Finally, with concerns over the current economic conditions, the safety of staff and guests is crucial and although the tourism industry continue to show resiliency it is important to take on all the right precautions and to look forward to moving past these challenging times.
